My friend is confused

So my friend had been having an affair with another man. Her husband eventually caught her and the woman decided to end the affair. Despite what had happened, the two were thankfully able to save their marriage. However, nothing is ever as it seems. Three months after the wife ended her affair, after her husband caught her, the wife found out her husband had been cheating on her the entire time. We’re not in anyway condoning cheating, but why is it okay for the husband to have an affair, have his wife apologize for it, and then continue to have affairs?! It’s the classic story of the male wanting power in the relationship and having a sense of control. Thankfully, this is one wife who found out about her husband’s dirty laundry. Other’s aren’t so lucky.

Classic case of poetic justice isn’t it. Your point is right but ultimately it boils down to the fact that they were both not true to each other. They were not satisfied with each other. They deserved to separate and I hope they eventually did.

I see three scenarios here. One, both realise what they have done, and decide to give the marriage another honest attempt. Second, they realise monogamy is not for them and can be happy in an open marriage sort of understanding. Third, they go their separate ways as neither is inherently happy here. But to avoid any future pain, best to have a frank talk and decide

Now that both sides are even, is the wife okay with it? Because she shouldn’t. Neither should he be. Marriage isn’t a smooth ride, true. But the question here isn’t about who wants to control whom, but how their marriage has lost its essence long time back. Rather than playing the backstabbing game, wouldn’t it be better if they set each other free?
