Content Posting Rules

Please read our content posting rules carefully. They summarize what content we consider acceptable and unacceptable. We may update the rules time to time, so request you to read them before posting anything on our site.

Rule 1: We appreciate your opinions

We appreciate and thus welcome your opinions. We would love our readers to read and understand different points of view. We welcome your contribution to our discussion forums as well as to our features.

Rule 2: Ours is a public forum

Once your comment is posted, it becomes online, and every one with Internet access will be able to read it. Please ensure to make your comments clear so that it is not misunderstood. You are free to express a strong opinion but please do not go over the top. Please do not forget that you are legally responsible for what you submit. Rule 3: Language and relevance

We request you to be polite. Please do not use swear words or sexual or crude language. Keep your comments and submissions relevant to the topic. Kindly do not insult other contributors or discuss the removal or non-appearance of any content on or the suspension or termination of any users. Rule 4: No libel or other abuse

We request you to not make or encourage comments which are:

  1. insulting, threatening or abusive;
  2. defamatory, false or misleading;
  3. offensive, racist, sexist, homophobic or discriminatory against any religions or other groups;
  4. obscene or of a sexual nature.

Rule 5: Confidentiality, privacy and contempt

Please respect other reader’s or contributor’s privacy. You are not allowed to submit confidential or private information of other people. For example, you should not upload the phone number, email address or any other contact details of any person other than yours.

You must not write anything that could prejudice pending or on-going court proceedings of which you are aware. For instance, if you have any personal knowledge about an individual being prosecuted or charged or being arrested for an offence, you should not mention it. If you do so, you may be in contempt of court, which is an extremely serious matter.

Rule 6: No advertising, solicitation or investigations

You must strictly not use for any sponsorship, petition, campaign, scheme or chain message;

  • the promotion of any products or services or for any other commercial purpose;
  • an investigation e.g. tracing the whereabouts of any person.

Rule 7: No impersonation and proper disclosure

You must not pretend to be an expert, another user or a member of our team. You must not pretend that you are unconnected to a topic or story, where you are in fact connected. You should disclose your connection if you have a personal connection to a story or topic, or, where appropriate, not comment at all.

Rule 8: No linking or copyright infringement

You should not insert links to websites (URLs) or submit content on our website which would be an infringement of copyright.

Rule 9: Comments on Features or on our Discussions

Registered users can submit an unlimited number of comments across the site. If you want to contribute to an ongoing debate about a topic, please use our Discussion Forums.

Rule 10: Respect the spirit as well as the tone of the Content Posting Rules

In deciding what is acceptable, kindly respect the spirit and tone of the rules mentioned here and the community.

Rule 11: Removal of content

In case any of the comments violate the letter or spirit of the rules mentioned here may be removed (or not published in the first place, if checked in advance). We may remove whole posts, and if necessary, we may remove entire threads (not just parts). This means that even if only one sentence is objectionable, the whole comment may usually be removed (or not published).

If a thread or a comment is removed, this may be done for any number of reasons. This may be done because the comment is the subject of an abuse report or it breaks these rules or our terms. The comment may sometimes also be removed because it is connected to another comment which is being removed. We request you to kindly understand that we may have to remove a comment (once properly notified of a complaint) for legal reasons (whatever the rights and wrongs).

Rule 12: Suspension and termination

We reserve the right to ban or suspend an account at our sole discretion.

Here are some reasons why we might do so:

Breaching the rules mentioned here or in our Privacy Policy;

  • Conduct or comments that abuse our staff or that demand a disproportionate amount of our time;
  • Serious failure to respect the spirit and tone of the community.

Bans are generally for extreme cases and repeated serious abuse. The length of a suspension or whether we ban someone depends on all such circumstances.

If we suspend or ban your registration, kindly do not attempt to re-register or submit content (by using someone else’s account) without our permission.
