bride viewing

Bride-viewing is an ancient custom in India. It so happens that one bride gets viewed by so many possible candidateams and then gets rejected. I have seen the same happening in my family too. Isn’t this practice oppresive to the psyche and feelings of the bride?

  1. It is a regressive custom. I hated it when I had to go thru it myself- although it was only once.
Two people who plan to spend life together, should meet in an informal setting minus the trail of family first.
Things are changing in India, and hopefully this custom too shall meet its death soon.

  2. I have a proud funny memory to share. I saw 25 prospects before saying yes to the last one – who is my husband now 😀 And I feel happy to share that in most cases it is was me who went to the prospective groom’s house to see him.

  3. Yes, it is. You end up feeling objectified. For a change, there should be groom viewing too. Moreover, women need to come out and refuse to be a part of it. Why can’t there be a more suitable arrangement? It is going to be a marriage Union of two people not one. The girl has equal rights to weigh and measure the groom as much as the groom has.
