Did the idol of a Shivling or erotic architecture of Indian temples ever give you a sexual high?

Many temples of Eastern and Central India built in ancient age carry signs of erotic postures. Even Shivling is an ultimate structure where all desires end as per Hindu scriptures. Are these temple architectures more erotic than porn videos?

  1. Ancient Indians devised a sect of spiritualism that combined carnal acts with meditation. In a way, it wasnt about sex, or eroticism. This was spiritualism at its peak where you dont have to be an ascetic or give up materialistic pleasure to attain nirvana. Hence, the people from those times, used the symbols of their sect in the temples. Centuries later when all sects of Vedic culture were amalgamated into one generic Hindu religion (that we have now), we forgot everything about our past and started comparing thsese signs with erotic, because this is what our western education has taught us. *p**p*The truth is these symbols and idols have nothing to do with erotica and everything to do with spiritiualism.*p**p* *p**p*Now, our perception has been so skewed that we cannot even try to think how our ancestors used these carnal methods to elevate themselves. Now its all about porn and 'sex positions' where you will find people giggline at the statues.*p*

  2. Beauty lies in the eye of beholder. It never looked to me such though. My parents are Gods to me,  Gods are parents to me,  sexuality perspective to this is an insane, at least to me. *p*

  3. Very true. But let me share an incident. Last month I had been to Konarak. As I was going around, I could see a bunch of young guys say around 20 something were asking the guide about various positions, when one said suddenly you dnt even get to see so many poses on a porn video. That struck me. There are those like you and me who realise temple architecture is about celebrating desire, but there are again many who take them as a desirous lesson.*p*

  4. True… but the temple architecture does reflect a lot about sex. What is your take on that? Why does Indian architecture show so much of sexual postures and poses?*p*

  5. True.. and for Indian temple architecture it is more about where desires meet and end. In this context one can also read up Tantric sex!*p*

  6. Erotic is often seen as sacred in many cultures because of its procreative aspect. There is no apparent vulgarity or pornography because these depictions are born out of a canonical representation of pleasure intrinsic to the said culture. *p*
