Do men have mood swings?

In a relationship men sometimes will behave weirdly. They’ll be all mushy one day and suddenly turn sour the next day; not talk for days together when they want; or disappear completely and surface later as if nothing has happened. Mood swings at their worst.

Mood is gender neutral. Women are stereotyped as one with mood swings due to the menstrual cycle. But men manage to have them even without the help of those hormones. It's just human nature. We can choose to be led by emotions or lead our emotions. *p*

Are you sure this is because of ‘mood swings’ and not anything else? 😉

I don’t think so. I have not behaved in this fashion nor have come across men with such behavior. There may be few men but it can’t be generalized. Men patch up quickly, they can’t be away from loved ones for long and will never prefer silence. But I have come across women who have had this sort of mood swings and behaved weirdly.

Yes, men do have mood swings. the reason is mostly external. Like, tough time with boss, office stress, argument with colleague, project deadline fast approaching, financial loss etc etc could be the reason for mood swing on the negative side. Getting better job, new relationship/friend, financial gain, party with friends could be the reason for the positive mood swing.

Oh yes, i agree. Men do have mood swings. But it may not be restricted to a relationship. It could be a morning grump, or fatigue or just sheer boredom. The relationship is probably just a context like everything else and should neutralize extreme mood swings rather than create one. *p**p*I have had mood swings at work and i take them in my stride. It’s part of personality and maybe that’s how i am. I don’t think it has anything to do with relationships. In fact i would like my partner and the relationship to be the balance on which i can swing my mood – for my good.

Guess, we can….

Deepa June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

That’s an honest one….

Deepa June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Then there surely are a whole lot of abnormal men out there….:)

Deepa June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Men patch up quickly???? Well, that’s debatable….*p*Men, as far as partner communication goes, will rarely be the ones to patch up. They like to complicate things and hence the mood swings.

Deepa June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

If issues don’t need help then what is a partner for? *p*

JaeRajesh June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

The one word answer is ‘biology’. It’s a natural phenomenon for women while it’s an abnormality with men.

JaeRajesh June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Mood swings in men? I think this is a very individualistic trait than being a general nature with all men. But, it’s true that men in general find it uncomfortable to revisit a point of conflict again and again. So, as you said, once some time have elapsed, the matter is pushed into a far corner and behave as though nothing has happened.

Yes, Deepa. Absolutely! men constantly seem to battle between their love and ‘the market’ .*p*Men are exposed a lot to the mundane world, they tend to worry about their women in this ‘wicked’ place, many times losing thier calm over situations which ‘can happen’.*p*Men with thier other male firends are loud about their jokes and stuff, under the garb of boys will be boys; but the same men actually become putty in their ladies arms- they want to! so i think its a self imposed dichotomy . for years the wise ones have been telling us to acknowledge the balance of yin yang within, to empower the softer feelings….*p* i somehow think its the false machoism we try to project all the time that is responsible for the erratic behaviour. But this i can vouch, Real Men love their women to the end of the world. 🙂

Ayushi June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Obviously, they have. And like how men are not able to understand a woman's mood swings, even a woman is still not able to decipher them. It can happen anytime without any prior intimation. So, just try to be okay with his mood swings and let it pass.*p*

Hridaan June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

This is completely normal. Men have mood swings just like women. It is equally funny when we act as if nothing happened after coming out from a sudden fit of aloofness. *p*

Sid June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Of course, we do. Everyone has mood swings – irrespective of their gender. It’s what happens when your circumstances/situation changes, and usually there are a number of external and internal factors working in tandem here. *p*The problem, if we do term it so, is that society is not often used to men showing emotions – it’s definitely getting better, but men are still taunted every now and then for any sudden change of emotions, and perhaps that’s why a lot of men don’t really express things the same way.

Harshad Sharma June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Men internalise more. Dig within when they are faced with a problem. Often that is interpreted as a mood swing. It’s just figuring out the issue without help or celebrating its resolution without explanation. Hey. That’s what makes us – us.

Mira June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Funny thing is… mood swings in men is called Irritable Mens Syndrome .. So can we generalise women in mood swings are stressed and men in mood swings are irritable?

Mira June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

When mood swings in Women are blamed upon hormones… why wouldnt it be same for men? IMS

Raul Sodat Najwa June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Of course

RakshaBharadia June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

I actually think this is super true….men do not visit the conflict point again and again…

RakshaBharadia June 8, 2017 - 8:55 am

Hahaha…so you are saying men generally do not have mood swings? Can I also know why they don’t?
