Joint family

Does being married into a joint family rips you off of your privacy or takes away your “me” time?

Privacy is an alien concept in a traditional indianhousehold. It’s good if possible to spend a few years alone when married but it’s a great help if ur staying together when u have children. There is family to look after children expenses household chores are shared. Only if there is too much acrimony then best to live alone otherwise joint families are a boon

Most certainly..but then it also gives something valuable. The caregiving of a family member (to the children), the learning that elders can give. I think the young couple should know how to balance. In India we are actually prejudiced towards the senior citizens, people are quick to judge that the parents are left alone etc. But no one sees how entitled and difficult they are too!
