Is everything Shubh Mangal for an erectile dysfunction in the Indian conventional set-up?

Maybe or maybe not… everything is quirky and just another sit-com tediousness. It is all about being real and breaking the taboo in the society in a humorous way. Well, what are we talking here is the fresh and mirthful Shubh Mangal Saavdhan movie starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar that has been talked about by all, in their own sweet mannerisms.

In Indian context, talking about erectile dysfunction, sexual desires, or women with sexual needs is still considered to be a maxim. Basically, it has got a lot of pre-notions social stigma attached. These can be physical or mental like – social anxiety, phobia, emotional fretfulness and many more. No wonder, we aren’t able to teach our kids or break the myths of the society by initiating communication in a healthy manner about sexual desires or erectile dysfunction and any other sexual distress and the need to  speak about in open.

So why don’t we talk, why don’t we speak about, how it can ruin a relationship even before it can start. Director R S Prasanna’s Shubh Mangal Saavdhan says it all – it is based on an outlawed topic of male erectile dysfunction (character played by Ayushmann Khurrana) who struggles in his own way to save his love and marriage with the girl (Bhumi Pednekar) when he discovers that he is suffering from erectile dysfunction.

It is clearly indicated in the movie that how openly the characters deal with the sexual problem . The entire movie revolves around issues and the hurdles of the courtship and how hard it is for a girl to initiate sex or sex talks. It is a lesson for  our society to become proactive and speak about it aloud.

It’s time we shall start communicating, within and outside our families. Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is like a fresh breeze in the dry spell of the Indian society where we are still conservative in a lot many critical factors that exists.

All in all …. The movie does justice to the issue commonly prevalent in our society that needs loads of attention.
