A flashback to the peppy 1990s with this happy number! Ek Dil Chahiya that’s made in India!
Made in India song by Alisha Chinai was the first indie-pop album. The song, which is of 3 minutes, begins with the first page of an open book, probably trying to be symbolically indicative of an ancient manuscript in a bygone era. It says very distinctively, the following words, “Once upon a time far, far away in the land of Qashah, there lived a princess named Alisha. It is the same name as the highly famous yesteryear singer Alisha Chinai who features in the video as the central character of a princess.
Alisha Chinai plays the princess
The main video starts with the princess being entertained by her courtesan staff, and the lyrics explicitly describe how she has travelled to all nooks and corners of the world and seen the wide variety of different cultures in terms of their food, clothing or lifestyle. She takes up different attires corresponding to the various nations she has visited and goes on singing in a melodious voice, expressing her quest for love so far.
The princess gradually gets more and more frustrated in her search for a true love, who is most suitable if he possesses the “Made In India” qualification. Many princes of non-Indian origin turn up for asking the fair princess’ hand in marriage – a Japanese, an American and even an exquisitely handsome European; however, she rejects all of them.
She is unable to find someone who she feels is precisely right for her. She consults a fortune-teller to help her find the ideal man who she would settle down with. He performs some witchcraft, and she gets a vision of a handsome Indian prince’s face and muscular body in the vessel where the ritual (witchcraft) is being performed.
The prince is brought to the court. He comes out of a box, lifts the princess, who is draped in a red sari now as a part of the marriage ritual.
The video concludes with the following sweet message, “The handsome prince and the princess lived happily together ever after.”
