Everything about Mrs Funnybones, the lady who tamed Akshay Kumar

Despite being the daughter of two successful actors, Twinkle Khanna quickly realised her talents lay elsewhere
Beautiful Twinkle Khanna

In the coming year, on 26th January a ground-breaking film called Pad Man will be released. It is a mainstream movie starring Akshay Kumar about affordable sanitary napkins. In a country like India where menstruation is the ultimate taboo, making a mainstream film like this is really brave.

The writer and person behind this film is Twinkle Khanna, who has become much more than just superstar Akshay Kumar’s wife in recent years. It is not unheard of wives being producers of star husbands’ movies, like Gauri Khan, but Twinkle Khanna does not just produce. She has actively influenced her husband to do relevant films.

In their appearance as a couple in Koffee With Karan, Akshay Kumar mentioned his wife coerced him to do couple of sensible films every year, such as Airlift, Baby, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2. When a big star like Akshay does relevant movies, the message really reaches the masses.

Being associated with a big star is nothing new for Twinkle. She was born as the eldest daughter of the first ever superstar of India, Rajesh Khanna, and the teenage crush of a generation, Bobby a.k.a. Dimple Kapadia.

Great expectations

When in 1995 Twinkle debuted in Bollywood with the film Barsaat there was lots of anticipation about her, given her lineage. But unfortunately she did not succeed in movies and today she’s the first to make fun of her acting.

But she was not like some other star kids who take advantage of nepotism to join films despite not being good at it. They fail and fade with time, not being good at anything.

Twinkle was different. She is intelligent enough to realise and accept very early that she can’t act. So when she got married, she said a final farewell to her film career.

Her husband Akshay Kumar was the established playboy of Bollywood. The longevity of her marriage was doubtful. But proving everyone wrong, she not only tamed but also domesticated the wild one. Now they have one of the most solid marriages among the celebrities.

Trying to keep it normal

In their appearance in Koffee With Karan they talked about their daily routine and it was apparent they are not like any other celebrity couple. They avoid parties, they sleep at 9 pm every night and before sleeping they play poker; just the two of them. What more can a couple ask for! They have a perfectly normal life, even being celebrities.

But she didn’t leave her acting career to become just a wife; she had other plans. She opened an interior decoration firm after being self-taught, and has decorated many famous homes and offices. Twinkle dabbles in designer candle making too.

Next she started producing her husband’s movies.

Then she decided to become a writer and excelled there too.

Multitasking superwoman

Although she grew up with her mother, she never forgot her father. She campaigned for him when he fought in an election. She was with him when he was sick and then passed away.

In between she gave birth to two beautiful children and tries every day to give them a normal childhood.

It seems like she and her brain can’t sit still even for a moment.

Lately, she is chiefly known for her hugely popular tongue-in-cheek newspaper columns, written under the pseudonym Mrs Funnybones. She published her first book Mrs Funnybones in the year 2015. And then in 2016, the second book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, was released. The film Pad Man is based on this book.

Both her books rule the bestselling list.

Since 2014 she has been on Twitter and voices her opinions on everything under the sun. She has become a relevant and respected voice on many social issues.

Twinkle Khanna’s birthday is a great occasion to celebrate a rich and fulfilling life.
